Neymar’s father takes Santos CEO role as family influence deepens

Santos presents Neymar da Silva Santos’s appointment as a way to strengthen planning and management, while coverage from another perspective places it within the Neymar family’s growing financial and institutional role at the club.

Santos FC has appointed Neymar da Silva Santos, the father and business representative of footballer Neymar, as chief executive officer, placing him formally within the club’s executive structure. The position is set to run through the end of 2026, with any continuation beyond that tied to the club’s presidential election scheduled for 12 December.

Coverage of the appointment differs mainly in emphasis. One account portrays the move as the latest sign of the Neymar family’s expanding influence since Neymar Jr. returned to Santos in early 2025. It notes that NR Sports, the family company, has participated in Vila Belmiro infrastructure improvements and provided financial support to a club facing financial difficulties.

Another account focuses on the operational case for the appointment. Neymar Santos said the newly formed role would help Santos through the end of the year and allow it to prepare for the following season: “So that we can plan Santos for next year with the possibilities we have today.” He also said the current squad could compete in the tournaments planned for 2027.

Both accounts agree that his responsibilities will extend beyond a conventional advisory role. Santos says he will help integrate football, marketing and new-business operations, while also leading the Instituto Meninos da Vila, the club’s youth-talent project. The more detailed account adds responsibility for the Ídolos Eternos group, which brings together former club figures.

The appointment comes after the CEO position stood vacant since Pedro Martins left in May 2025. It also follows NR Sports’ involvement in arrangements connected to a FIFA transfer ban, including an agreement under which Santos gave the company advertising space on its shirts in exchange for help settling a debt.

The shared facts point to an expanded management role; the difference is whether it is chiefly seen as a practical effort to organise Santos or as a further consolidation of the Neymar family’s presence in the club’s affairs.
