Luxury Aurora Trip Report Deepens Scrutiny of Lulinha, While His Lawyers Reject the Narrative
Reports portray the trip as a costly benefit under scrutiny in a broader influence-peddling inquiry, while Fábio Luís Lula da Silva’s lawyers say the leaked material is incomplete and does not establish wrongdoing.
Brazilian reports say federal police found a detailed itinerary on lobbyist Roberta Luchsinger’s phone for a January 2025 European trip taken by Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, known as Lulinha, his wife and relatives. The itinerary, which included Sweden, Finland and Switzerland to view the aurora borealis, was initially budgeted at about R$1.8 million.1
The reporting frames the travel as a potential element in a sealed Supreme Federal Court investigation into suspected influence peddling involving Lulinha and Luchsinger. Investigators are examining possible dealings connected to business interests, including the fertilizer company Unigel; the reported travel budget itself does not establish that a crime occurred.1
According to the accounts, the planned trip featured high-end lodging at the HUUS Gstaad hotel in the Swiss Alps, six days of skiing, a private chef and butler service. Luchsinger reportedly paid R$339,000 to a travel agency in October 2024, while a charter flight from Switzerland to Stockholm allegedly added roughly R$221,000, taking the overall cost above R$2 million.1
Lulinha’s legal team offers a sharply different interpretation. It says he “has committed no crime” and will address any facts under review through the formal case and before the appropriate authorities.2 The lawyers also describe the leaked investigative material as selective and taken out of context, arguing it has been used to create “insinuations and false narratives.”2
Thus, the published accounts place the trip within a wider inquiry into alleged influence, whereas the defense contests both the implication of guilt and the way the information reached the public. Luchsinger’s defense had not commented, according to the reports.1
